Warm-up doodle. A simple Spider-Man design, I like it enough. Still thinking on what to do for a more complete Alien drawing, plus I’ve got my sketchpad full of rubberhose Korra doodles, so I have to do something with that.

Welcome to the first post in this trainwreck. I’m still deciding on what to name the blog, so I’ll take suggestions- currently thinking on “Almost Rubberhose Pop Culture”. The reason being that for simple historical reasons (namely being a style developed almost a hundred years ago), attempting to do “pure” rubberhose in imitation of Disney and Fleischers will be extremely limiting- but on the other hand, deviate too much and it starts being Tex Avery, you know? So. These are the sketches for the first finalized picture I’m making, based on Alien from a suggestion on 4chan. Here’s a fun factoid- I’ve never seen Alien! I’ve had a traumatising horror of aliens until somewhat recently, as a mix of traumas from childhood and old ladies from Jehovah’s Witnesses always coming over to my house when no adult was there to show me terrifying pamphlets of exploding cities. I will one day see Alien, but so far, I’ve managed to have nightmares simply by watching Roswell -Roswell!- so… er. Maybe I’ll start with Prometheus. As for starting with Alien, there are some advantages and disadvantages on drawing a Xenomorph on a “rubberhose” style- it’s extremely detailed, but also has a somewhat simple, striking silhouette. I hope I managed to simplify it enough. Also, I imagine the mouth-dick talking like Durante.
